MUSCAT: The Muttrah Cable Car project commenced operations on Sunday, offering visitors panoramic aerial views of the historic Muttrah waterfront, the Port Sultan Qaboos and surrounding areas.

The project is expected to boost commercial activity in Muttrah Souq and the Waterfront Area, which is one of the capital's major tourist attractions.

Many Omani, expatriate and tourists that the Observer spoke to on Sunday at the three cable car stations welcomed the new experience in Muttrah and were satisfied with the smooth ride on the cable car.

On a single ticket, the visitors get a trip from the Port Station to Mountain Station and then take a separate ride from there to the Rose Bay or Hay al Ward Station.

Recreational facilities have been prepared at the Mountain Station like Mini Oman besides restaurants and cafes and the selfie junction.

The stations feature visitor reception and ticketing facilities, commercial spaces, restaurants and cafes, recreational facilities, souvenir shops, and areas dedicated to art and business activities.

The Mountain Station also includes the Muttrah Digital House, a cultural facility showcasing the history and heritage of Muttrah and Muscat through digital projection technologies, visual effects and artificial intelligence, offering an experience that combines knowledge and entertainment.

The cable car route spans around 3km and connects three main stations: the Port Station, the Mountain Station and the Hay Al Ward (Rose Bay) Station. The journey takes approximately 15 minutes.

The project features 18 cabins, including 16 standard cabins and two VIP cabins, with a declared capacity of up to 800 passengers per hour, making it one of Oman's eagerly anticipated tourism projects.

The Line 1 between Port and Mountain stations are operated with 10 cabins and while six cabins operate on the Line 2 between the Mountain and Rose Bay stations.
